Disclosure and Barring Service Checks

Access Training is a Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) Registered Umbrella Body.  Provided that you are entitled to ask exempted questions under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (ROA) 1974 Exceptions Order 1975, and can meet the obligations contained in the DBS’ Code of Practice, we are able to process DBS applications on your behalf.  We undertake DBS checks for over 30 employers / organisations across the country, ranging from nurseries and schools; to personal assistants, independent training providers, dance academies, martial arts studios, taxi firms, dental practices, not for profit social enterprises and child psychological therapists.

Our Service

As part of our DBS checking service, we are able to:
  • act as an interface between you and the DBS
  • administer & process DBS applications on your behalf
  • provide initial training (normally a 10-15 minute session by phone) on completing the application form and the checking process of the applicant's identity
  • advise on eligibility for undertaking an enhanced disclosure and a check of the DBS Children's and/or Adult's Barred List(s)
  • thereafter provide over the phone guidance for ad-hoc queries when completing an application and/or checking a piece of documentation as part of the identity check
  • help you comply with certain obligations contained in the DBS Code of Practice

Costs

The current cost of an Enhanced DBS check is £38.00 and our administration fees start at £12.50 plus VAT per application.  The levels of service that we offer can be discussed upon enquiry. Included in these prices are:

  • the advice we give on completing applications
  • a final check of the completed application form and the countersignature itself by one of our trained and highly experienced DBS countersignatories
  • the postage charge incurred when forwarding the application to the DBS for processing.

The DBS require us to undertake and pay for an external ID check in respect of applicants who cannot produce a passport, driving licence or an original birth certificate issued at the time of birth. This will incur an additional cost of £10.00 plus VAT per check.

Should an applicant meet the definition of a volunteer as provided in the DBS’ glossary of terms, the Enhanced DBS check charge is waived therefore the cost would be just the administration fee of either £12.50 / £17.50 plus VAT (plus the cost of an external ID check if necessary, as described above).

Recommendations
"Access Training have served as the umbrella body for DBS checks for NMITE since 2019.  As a new provider of higher education, having the back-up and support of a highly professional and efficient service has been of great value to us. Access are a great partner to work with and I highly recommend them to any organisation seeking an umbrella body. Many thanks to Chris and all his Team!"

“Access Training have provided an umbrella service for the School for over 5 years now.  Although we are a small organisation we have over nine different occupational groups, volunteers (including governors and trustees) and a range of external professionals on campus.  Access Training provided on-site support for a high volume of renewals then ongoing up-to-date, robust support with new checks.  I doubt the turnaround time for applications could be improved upon.  Thank you for your help.”
