Access Training’s Commitment to Learning Awards
11th November 2020
We know that this has been a difficult year and we wanted to recognise the huge efforts our learners have made to continue with their learning. Some have continued to work during lockdown in front line roles, some have been working from home for the first time and others have been furloughed. Whatever your situation has been, we wanted to recognise the dedication shown to studies and so created the ‘Commitment to Learning’ Awards. Our Trainer Assessor nominated Learners for their outstanding dedication to learning during the lockdown.
Access Training are proud to share the winners for our Commitment to Learning awards – congratulations!

Claire Lowth (was Leatherland) – nominated by Sarah Kelly
Claire has always worked hard but as we went into lockdown her project for EPA was put on hold so she wasn`t able to complete it. Despite this knockback she identified a different project she could work on. She worked relentlessly to make this happen during a really a challenging time with staff absences. Internal training was hugely impacted from covid so she has been under extreme pressure in her day job, as well as prepare for End point assessment. She will be the first management 5 learner to go through, so she hasn`t had the benefit of knowing what to expect from other L5 apprentices. Claire is pregnant and has been unwell through a lot of the stages, she has still met her targets and taken part in teams meetings, even when she has felt unwell as she is so motivated to complete. We presented Claire with her certificate and managed to take a photo (socially distanced) whilst she came to our centre to it her exam. |
Nakeisha Gunter – nominated by Claire Lloyd
Nakeisha has tried so hard to complete work, keep in touch and get through her English. During lockdown she had some very challenging personal circumstances but persevered and passed estimates for her reading and writing. Nakeisha hasn’t let her personal situation stand in her way and even with 2 children to care for, she is still focused on her functional skills and always responds to her tutor when contacted and keeps us updated on her targets. |
Terri-Ann France – nominated by Beth Peakall
Terri-Ann has shown real dedication to learning. Her off the job sheets are always full of interesting courses and articles she has read, along with the coursework. Her assignments are outstanding, and they are on time. She attends all the online training and makes good contributions to the training. She manages staff at Highwood House, which is a hostel for homeless families. They have been down staff while expanding the service to 200 dispersed properties. Terri-Ann has taken on the ordering system, and, now that they have recruited staff, she is trainings and supporting them as well. In addition to all this, she has a husband and young son at home! She is unfailingly honest, and very clear and committed to her course work, job (which she sees as a vocation), and her family. She is not afraid to ask for help when needed, nor does she refuse to help others. |
Jack Wood – nominated by Rachel Harriman
Jack is a learner who has always struggled to learn and has had a huge lack in self-confidence. He has tried several job roles in the past but has really settled into childcare. He gets fantastic reviews from the management team at nursery. Jack has completed both level 2 and 3 with Access and has also completed functional skills in Maths, English and ICT and both levels 1 and 2 (supported by myself and Lydia) He was due to complete at the end of July 2020. Despite being furloughed he continued to work well, gained witness statements where needed (under the mitigation rules) as the final observation could not be done and managed to complete remotely in August. He has worked well at every stage and has really developed his confidence. Alongside his learning and full-time job, he has also had 2 children during this time. He also has his third (and last) child is on the way, congratulations Jack! |
Courtney Evans – nominated by Debbie Cox
Courtney worked all the way through lock down, she was one of the key members of staff retained at her workplace. Despite working, Courtney continued to meet the deadlines set by her assessor, even at times asking for additional work, she showed real dedication to the qualification. Courtney also managed to achieve her functional skills Maths L2 and ICT L2 during lockdown, again working hard to meet the targets set by the functional skills tutor. Courtney really impressed us with her positive outlook and the way how she stayed focussed throughout. Courtney is now set to complete her qualification and will complete around 6 weeks early, which is a fantastic achievement with everything going on. She always has very positive feedback from placement, and she is a highly valued member of staff. |
