14th March 2023
Businesses seeking to enhance the learning and development of their staff and teams are to be offered valuable support with the launch of a new Learning and Skills Mentor Apprenticeship.

Access Training (East Midlands) Ltd is one of the first in the region to offer this new Level 4 qualification, approved for delivery on 1 March 2023 by the Institute for Apprenticeships & Technical Delivery.

The Learning and Skills Mentor is a role that applies to any sector where there is a need for training and development including in healthcare, manufacturing, business, construction technology and professional sectors. The role is designed to support individuals and teams with their learning and development, with the objective of achieving agreed goals.

Subjects covered by the apprenticeship include how to establish and manage a mentoring contract, mentoring theory and models, methods of communication and providing feedback, and the impact of an individual’s own values, beliefs and behaviours on mentoring practice.

Corrina Hembury, Managing Director of Access Training, said,

“When staff are trained well, they work efficiently, effectively, and according to the appropriate legal requirements for the sector or task in question. The impact on an organisation’s bottom line is immeasurable. To enable that to happen, the person delivering staff training must understand the best way to structure training and to communicate with different learners who have different learning styles and needs.

“We’ve put in place a training package that covers all the essential skills, behaviours and knowledge needed to excel in this role.  As is the case with all Access Training’s apprenticeship programmes, we offer a ‘roll on, roll off’ approach. Put simply, it means businesses don’t need to link their staff training to set academic terms, rather they can schedule it according to their own timescales.”

Individuals enrolled on the apprenticeship are required to mentor two mentees for the duration of the apprenticeship, and must be an expert in the subject matter of their mentees. In addition, they will be expected to commit to their own professional development and reflective practice.
