Update on Covid-19
28th May 2020
Following recent government guidance, we are delighted that we will be able to re-start some face-to-face visits to apprentices and learners in their workplace during June.
Unfortunately, the Department for Education will still not allow us to hold sessions in our centres, so these remain closed to learners until further notice.
We have been working hard over the last few months to support learners remotely via distance learning and this will continue, including remote assessments where possible. Where these aren’t possible eg for certain exams, observations or end-point assessments, we will be working with employers and learners to agree face-to-face visits to the workplace to undertake these activities.
Access Training takes the threat of Covid-19 very seriously and is following the latest government guidance for employers and educational settings to make sure we protect our learners and staff. Please be assured that the wellbeing of learners, staff and our employers is our first priority and we’re taking steps to both protect everyone and ensure that your learning can continue with as few disruptions as possible. Our staff have been provided with PPE and will not undertake any visits unless there is mutual agreement and it is safe to do so.
What this means for our learners:
Learners on Full-time Programmes
Work-based learners including Apprentices
Stay in touch
This is new territory for all of us and your questions and comments are very welcome to help develop this service going forward. If you’d like to contact us, please email on info@atem.co.uk or phone us on 0330 002 6266.
For work-based learners, please contact your Trainer Assessor via phone or email if you have queries.
Finally, I would like to personally thank our staff, learners and employers for their support and understanding. We are fully committed to doing the best for our learners throughout this unusual period and will send updates with new information as the situation develops.

What this means for our learners:
Learners on Full-time Programmes
- Classes finished on Friday 20th March.
- We moved to distance learning from Monday 23rd March. Learners are contacted on a regular basis by tutors for support, to set targets, advise on on-line learning etc. This is for both vocational subjects and maths/English.
- If learners can’t access on-line resources, we are making alternative arrangements eg posting paper-based resources.
- GCSE and functional skills exams have been cancelled and we are working closely with the awarding organisations to supply them with information for ‘Centre Assessed Grading’. Results are expected in August and will be communicated to learners as soon as we can.
- We are awaiting further guidance on alternative arrangements for vocational qualifications. We will update further as soon as we can.
Work-based learners including Apprentices
- Day-release classes at both Nottingham and Derby centres remain cancelled until further notice.
- We can begin carrying out face-to-face workplace visits to undertake essential activities to ensure learners are able to progress and achieve in a timely way eg for exams, observations of work practice, end-point assessment or group teaching sessions. This will be pre-arranged with employers and learners and will only take place if there is mutual agreement and compliance with all safety rules. Our Trainer Assessors have been provided with full PPE and will discuss with each employer what procedures they have in place to ensure visits take place safely.
- We will continue with distance learning for the majority of learning and assessment sessions. Appointments are carried out remotely (eg via the phone or video conferencing) to support learners, set targets, advise on on-line learning etc. This is for both vocational subjects and maths and English.
- On-line learning portfolios and resources are available to support distance learning. If learners can’t access on-line resources, we are making alternative arrangements eg posting paper-based resources.
