Update on Coronavirus/Covid-19
5th January 2021
Further to the government announcement yesterday we can confirm that Access Training will be closing our centres to most learners from Tuesday 5th January until Monday 22nd February 2021 at the earliest.
We are disappointed not to be able to remain open, however, we will be doing all that we can to continue to support learners remotely via distance learning and will also provide further updates and clarification on what this will mean for exams, end-point assessments and certification of programmes once we have been told by the Department of Education.
Access Training takes the threat of Covid-19 very seriously and is following the latest government guidance for employers and educational settings to make sure we protect our learners and staff. Please be assured that the wellbeing of learners, staff and our employers is our first priority and we’re taking steps to both protect everyone and ensure that your learning can continue with as few disruptions as possible.
What does this mean for our learners:
Learners on Full-time Programmes
Work-based learners including Apprentices
Access staff are still at work and our Nottingham and Derby centres will remain open for tests and other essential appointments.
Stay in touch
This is new territory for all of us and your questions and comments are very welcome to help develop this service going forward. If you’d like to contact us, please email on info@atem.co.uk or phone us on 0330 002 6266.
For work-based leaners, please contact your Trainer Assessor via phone or email if you have queries.
Finally, we would like to personally thank our staff, learners and employers for their support and understanding. We are fully committed to doing the best for our learners throughout this unusual period and will send updates with new information as the situation develops.

What does this mean for our learners:
Learners on Full-time Programmes
- We have moved to distance learning from Monday 4th January. This means that learners will be contacted on a regular basis by tutors for support, to set targets, advise on on-line learning etc. This will be for both vocational subjects and maths and English.
- We will continue to provided face-to-face tuition at our centres for vulnerable learners or children of ‘critical workers’. Please contact our full-time programmes manager, Becky Dutton on 0330 002 6266 if you fall into this category so we can confirm arrangements with you.
- If learners can’t access on-line resources, we will be making alternative arrangements eg posting paper-based resources and loaning equipment.
- We know that GCSE exams will not go ahead but have not got full clarification on alternative arrangements. We will update further as soon as we can.
Work-based learners including Apprentices
- Day-release classes at both Nottingham and Derby centres are cancelled until w/c 22nd February.
- We have moved to distance learning from Monday 4th January. This means that appointments will be carried out remotely (eg via the phone or video conferencing) where possible to support learners, set targets, advise on on-line learning etc. This will be for both vocational subjects and maths and English.
- Face-to-face visits will still be made, where necessary and safe to do so, to ensure minimal disruption to your learning eg for exams or assessments.
- On-line learning portfolios and resources are available to support distance learning. If learners can’t access on-line resources, we will be making alternative arrangements eg posting paper-based resources and loaning equipment.
- We are working closely with end-point assessment organisations and awarding bodies to minimise any disruption to exams, gateway meetings and end-point assessments.
Access staff are still at work and our Nottingham and Derby centres will remain open for tests and other essential appointments.
