Update on Coronavirus/Covid-19
23rd February 2021
Further to the government announcement yesterday we can confirm that Access Training will be reopening our centres to most learners from Monday 8th March.
Access Training takes the threat of Covid-19 very seriously and is following the latest government guidance for employers and educational settings to make sure we protect our learners and staff. Please be assured that the wellbeing of learners, staff and our employers is our first priority and we’re taking steps to both protect everyone and ensure that your learning can continue with as few disruptions as possible.
What does this mean for our learners:
Learners on Full-time Programmes
Work-based learners including Apprentices

Finally, we would like to personally thank our staff, learners and employers for their support and understanding. We are fully committed to doing the best for our learners throughout this unusual period and will send updates with new information as the situation develops.

What does this mean for our learners:
Learners on Full-time Programmes
- We will be providing face-to-face tuition at our centres for all groups from Monday 8th March.
- Learners, staff and visitors are expected to wear face coverings in corridors/communal areas at all times and in classrooms/workshops only where social distancing can’t be maintained.
- From April, we should be provided with the facilities to issue asymptomatic testing for learners (Lateral Flow Device (LFD) tests), until then, we encourage all learners to attend their local asymptomatic testing centre for an LFD test on a weekly basis. Testing is voluntary, but we urge all learners to take an LFD test at some point in the week commencing 1st March so they are ready to attend classes from Monday 8th March. Individuals with a positive LFD test result will need to self-isolate in line with the stay-at-home guidance. Those with a negative LFD test result can continue to attend classes unless they have individually been advised otherwise by NHS Test and Trace or Public Health professionals (for example as a close contact). Please inform the Tutor as soon as possible if learners receive a positive test so we can make alternative arrangements for their teaching.
Work-based learners including Apprentices
- We aim to re-start day-release classes at both Nottingham and Derby centres from Monday 15th March.
- For non-day-release apprentices, we will continue with remote learning as the main source of training. This means that appointments will be carried out remotely (eg via the phone or video conferencing) where possible to support learners, set targets, advise on on-line learning etc. This will be for both vocational subjects and maths and English.
- Face-to-face visits will still be made, where necessary and safe to do so, to ensure minimal disruption to your learning eg for exams or assessments and we hope that from April we will be able to resume more face-to-face visits where this will better support your learning.
- On-line learning portfolios and resources are available to support distance learning. If learners can’t access on-line resources, we will be making alternative arrangements eg posting paper-based resources and loaning equipment.
- We are working closely with end-point assessment organisations and awarding bodies to minimise any disruption to exams, gateway meetings and end-point assessments.
