Evelyn makes an impact at Streetwise
Level 3 Business Administration Apprentice
Evelyn joined Streetwise - Rushcliffe Borough Council in October 2023 as a Business Administration Apprentice through Access Training. Fresh out of sixth form and unsure of her next steps, Evelyn knew university wasn’t the right path for her. Instead, she wanted to continue learning while gaining real-world experience.
“I’d never worked in an office before, but I’d always been curious about how local authorities operated. When I saw the apprenticeship advertised on the government website, I applied through Access Training. The process was really simple, I had an interview within days and started two weeks later!”
Evelyn quickly settled into the team at Streetwise’s depot in Rushcliffe Borough Council. Working in a depot is quite different, but she found the team warm, friendly, and really supportive.
“Everyone was so welcoming, especially the frontline staff who go out of their way to say good morning and goodbye. I’ve had the chance to work across departments like Communities and Environmental Health, which has been amazing.”
Throughout her apprenticeship, Evelyn developed key skills including time management, adaptability, and digital literacy. She helped modernise systems in a traditionally paper-based environment, streamlining processes and improving efficiency.
“I’m quite digitally savvy, so I introduced new ways of working that helped the whole department. I also ran a recycling project visiting primary schools called ‘Don’t be a litter bug, be a litter hero’ campaign whilst also setting the children an artwork competition for the chance to name the new road sweeper at Streetwise, it really boosted my confidence.”
Evelyn’s hard work didn’t go unnoticed. She received glowing feedback from colleagues and was promoted to Partnership and Business Support Coordinator after completing her apprenticeship in April 2025.
“I’ve learned so much about myself, especially my people skills. I’d recommend an apprenticeship to anyone. If you don’t know something, just ask. There’s always someone willing to help.”
Looking ahead, Evelyn is continuing her development with a Prospa ILM management qualification starting in February 2026, with ambitions to stay in local government and grow her career.
