How Access Training is supporting future tradespeople

At Access Training, we’re passionate about providing high-quality apprenticeships that equip learners with the practical skills and knowledge needed to build successful careers. As we celebrate National Apprenticeship Week 2025, we’re shining a spotlight on three inspiring apprentices from Nottingham Community Housing Association (NCHA) who are developing their skills through the Property Maintenance Operative Apprenticeship.

Apprenticeships offer a fantastic way to earn while you learn, gain hands-on practical experience, and develop real-world skills. Rosie, Leo, and Joe are perfect examples of how apprenticeships can open doors and provide ‘Skills for Life’.

Rosie’s story: Thriving in a supportive learning environment

Rosie’s journey into the trades has been shaped by her determination and resilience. Living with dyslexia, she knew a traditional classroom-based route wasn’t for her, so she chose an apprenticeship where she could learn in a more practical, hands-on way.

Since joining NCHA, Rosie has been developing her skills across plumbing, painting, joinery, and plastering. She’s gaining confidence in her abilities and proving that apprenticeships provide real opportunities for growth, regardless of learning challenges.

Leo’s story: Choosing a hands-on career path

After studying engineering at college, Leo realised he preferred learning on the job rather than in a classroom. That’s what led him to apply for an apprenticeship at NCHA, and since then, he’s thrived in the practical learning environment.

“The best part of my apprenticeship is being able to learn on the job, gaining new skills every day. I get to experience four different trades, and so far, I’m enjoying joinery the most!

Leo is building valuable skills while working alongside experienced tradespeople, and he’s excited to see where his apprenticeship takes him next.

Joe’s story: Developing skills for a future in trades

Joe’s journey began with a year of studying bricklaying at college before deciding he wanted a broader skillset and real-world experience. His apprenticeship at NCHA has given him the chance to develop a wide range of trade skills while working alongside experienced professionals.

“The best thing about my apprenticeship is learning new skills while working with experienced professionals. Since joining, I’ve enjoyed every part of it, and I’d recommend an apprenticeship to anyone considering a career in the trades!”

Joe has particularly enjoyed plumbing, finding it both challenging and rewarding, and he’s looking forward to continuing his development in the field.

Delivering high-quality apprenticeships

At Access Training, we work closely with organisations like NCHA to deliver high-quality apprenticeship training that meets the needs of both learners and employers.

Angela Chamberlain, Apprentice and Talent Advisor at NCHA, stated, “We have an extremely valuable relationship with Access Training, who are key to our apprenticeship success stories.”

“They have played a part in the success of our apprenticeship program. Their expertise, adaptability, and dedication to high-quality training have been crucial in delivering a pipeline of skilled tradespeople for the future.”
