Colin receives an award at National Apprenticeship and Skills Awards 2025
Access Training is proud to congratulate our learner, Colin Colins, for being named Regional Winner for East of England in the prestigious Amazon Intermediate Apprentice of the Year Award at the Department for Education’s National Apprenticeship and Skills Awards 2025.
Colin, who works for Clarion Housing Response Ltd, completed his Level 2 Property Maintenance Operative Apprenticeship with Access Training. His achievement is a testament to his determination, resilience, and commitment to lifelong learning.
At 49 years old and severely dyslexic, Colin faced significant challenges when returning to education after decades away from the classroom. “Completing this apprenticeship has been the proudest achievement of my life,” Colin shared. “I hadn’t done anything like this since school, and the thought of completing English Functional Skills Level 1 was daunting. But with the incredible support from Access Training and my employer, I pushed through.”
Colin chose the apprenticeship to formalise his skills and progress in his career. His role at Clarion involves carrying out repairs and improvements to customers’ homes, ensuring they live safely and comfortably. The apprenticeship not only helped Colin secure a promotion but also boosted his confidence and communication skills. “The course has built my confidence, particularly in written communication and planning. I now feel much better equipped to handle day-to-day tasks,” he said.
Access Training provided tailored support to meet Colin’s additional learning needs, offering resources and guidance that enabled him to succeed. His story is an inspiring example of how apprenticeships can transform lives, proving that it’s never too late to learn.
Congratulations, Colin, on this incredible achievement! We’re proud to have supported you on your journey and look forward to seeing your continued success.
