Maria Burgess – Level 2 Housing & Property Management Assistant

Maria has worked in housing for several years and is now completing the Level 2 Housing and Property Management Assistant apprenticeship to strengthen her skills and progress her career. Working within the Housing Options team at Chesterfield Borough Council, Maria has used the programme to build confidence, refresh her knowledge, and grow professionally.

Maria has achieved several key milestones, including successfully completing Level 2 Maths and English. Her confidence has grown significantly through both academic progress and experience gained on the programme. She regularly submits assignments on time, attends workshops, and has demonstrated steady improvement in her written work.

In her role at Chesterfield Borough Council, Maria is already making a positive impact. Her case study project focuses on streamlining the process for matching tenants to the most suitable properties. By developing clear instructions and guidance for staff, she is helping to create a fair, transparent, and consistent approach that better meets individual tenant needs.

Maria has also taken part in valuable CPD activities, including safeguarding training, fire safety, Prevent, and shadowing customer service teams to understand processes such as applications, bidding, key returns, and end‑of‑tenancy procedures. She has attended workshops on customer service, personal development, repairs, maintenance, and wider housing provision.
