Lucy Thorpe – Level 2 Housing & Property Management Assistant

When Lucy joined the Level 2 Housing and Property Management Assistant apprenticeship with Access Training, she was completely new to the housing sector. Starting her journey at Mansfield District Council, she quickly demonstrated enthusiasm, commitment, and a genuine passion for supporting tenants and delivering great service.

Lucy’s positive attitude shines through in everything she does. She consistently meets targets, produces high‑quality work, and approaches each task with energy and determination. Her tutor describes her as the perfect example of an apprentice, entering housing with no prior experience and fully embracing every learning opportunity.

Throughout her apprenticeship, Lucy has seen her confidence grow significantly. She now speaks openly in workshops, contributes ideas, and is often the first to offer answers during group discussions. This increased confidence has also helped her secure a role in Mansfield District Council’s rental team, where she is excited to continue building her career in social housing.

One of Lucy’s standout contributions is her project to review and improve the council’s garage sign‑up process. Her manager highlighted that the current system can be messy and inconsistent due to workload pressures. Lucy is helping to redesign this process by reviewing procedures, updating site plans, and drafting a new, clearer allocation process to ensure smoother service delivery for staff and tenants.

Lucy has also taken part in a wide range of CPD opportunities, including workshops on customer service, repairs, maintenance, and housing organisations. She’s shadowed colleagues across admin and tenancy tasks, completed mandatory training in key compliance areas, and regularly shares what she learns with her team.

Reflecting on her journey, Lucy says she has “progressed in many different ways” and values the support and encouragement she has received from her assessor, Victoria. She is excited about the opportunities her qualification will bring.
