Early Years Practitioner Level 2 Apprenticeship

Starting a career in early years
Lola began her Early Years Practitioner Level 2 apprenticeship in May 2023 after discovering the opportunity on the gov.uk website. Already in employment but ready for a new direction, she was keen to build a career working with children.

Her apprenticeship with Access Training gave her the opportunity to step into an early years setting and gain practical, hands-on experience while working towards a recognised qualification.

A supportive approach to learning
During her apprenticeship, Lola faced challenges with her mental health, particularly around working a full five-day week. In response, her employer, Hollies Day Nursery, adapted her working pattern to four days per week, ensuring she could continue her learning in a way that supported her wellbeing.

This flexibility, combined with the support from her Trainer Assessor, was key to her success.

“Janet used to do face-to-face appointments as I struggled to listen over the phone as I got distracted. She was always there to contact if I was struggling with a topic.”

Lola benefited from a personalised approach to learning, with clear guidance and encouragement throughout her course.

“Janet provided me with the support I needed to succeed. She supported me with each step of my coursework, explaining it in detail so I wasn’t confused, and helped me prepare for my examinations which I felt nervous about.”

Recognised for making a difference
Lola quickly became a valued member of the team at Hollies Day Nursery. Her dedication and positive approach didn’t go unnoticed, she was nominated by parents as “Staff Member of the Year” in 2024, winning a £200 voucher.

This recognition highlights the impact she has made, not only within her team but also with the children and families she supports every day.

Looking ahead
Lola has successfully completed her apprenticeship and continues to thrive in her role at Hollies Day Nursery. Her journey demonstrates how the right support, both in the workplace and through training, can help learners overcome challenges and achieve their goals.

Lola’s experience shows that apprenticeships are not just about gaining qualifications, they’re about building confidence, developing resilience, and creating opportunities for the future.

If you’re ready to begin a career in early years, Access Training can support you every step of the way.
