Georgie Ankcorn: Mentoring her way to success
At Access Training, we’re passionate about helping individuals grow, thrive, and unlock their potential. One such inspiring success story is Georgie, who embarked on a journey of professional development that’s brought her closer to her goal of becoming a practice manager.
From receptionist to mentor
Georgie started her career at Heartwood Medical Practice as a receptionist and successfully completed a Business Administration Level 3 Apprenticeship. Recognising her potential and drive to grow, her manager encouraged her to take the next step: the Learning and Skills Mentor Level 4 apprenticeship.
This opportunity allowed Georgie to not only expand her knowledge but also gain valuable skills that would enhance her ability to mentor and support colleagues.

Learning, growing, and applying new skills
Georgie credits much of her success to her tutor, Gordon, whose support and guidance helped her navigate the challenges of the program. Reflecting on her experience, Georgie shared:
“I have found my tutor, Gordon, to be very approachable and wonderful. He helped me in my journey of learning new skills and how I can apply them in my everyday job role.”
Not only did Georgie achieve a qualification, but she also developed the practical skills necessary to support and mentor her colleagues. These skills have become an integral part of her work, allowing her to help others develop their careers while enhancing her own professional journey.

Making a difference every day
Even after completing the apprenticeship, Georgie continues to apply what she’s learned, mentoring new team members and contributing to the growth and success of her practice. She reflected on the challenges she faced and how she overcame them with Gordon’s help:
“I am very grateful for the mentoring course, and although I found it difficult towards the end, Gordon was there every step of the way to support and guide me. Even though I have now finished my course, I continue to use the skills every day and have gone on to mentor new members of staff that have joined the practice.”
