Access Training and NCHA – Building Futures Together
Nottingham Community Housing Association (NCHA) has joined forces with Access Training to launch a groundbreaking multi-trade apprenticeship program aimed at educating the next generation of skilled tradespeople. This collaboration has successfully recruited two cohorts of apprentices, with the initial group setting a strong foundation for future achievements.
Customised apprenticeship training
The current cohort of multi-trade apprentices commenced their journey with NCHA in 2024. Thanks to the tailored design of our program, these apprentices will swiftly move on to specialised trade apprenticeships, laying the groundwork for promising careers within NCHA. The program was specifically crafted to address NCHA’s requirements, compressing what is typically a two-year course into an intensive 12-month timeline.
To facilitate this accelerated learning, we increased the apprentices’ college attendance to two days per month, effectively doubling the usual schedule. This innovative strategy ensures that apprentices complete their foundational training in time to embark on their trade-specific apprenticeships after just one year.

Collaborative recruitment and assessment
We collaborated to create a comprehensive assessment centre process for recruiting apprentices. This new initiative marked a significant milestone for NCHA, offering a structured method for identifying the most suitable candidates.
The recruitment process incorporated English and maths assessments administered by our staff during the interview days. This streamlined approach enabled NCHA to quickly identify candidates who were ready to begin the course, ensuring a smooth transition from recruitment to training within the tight timeframe.
We maintain consistent communication, providing detailed insights into each apprentice’s progress and addressing any challenges that may arise. This proactive support has been crucial in ensuring the success of all apprentices currently participating in the program.
