Apprenticeship & Skills Development Award
Access Training is delighted to announce that, together with our co‑owners NCHA, we have been shortlisted for the Apprenticeship & Skills Development Award at the People in Housing Awards Midlands 2026. This recognition highlights exceptional skills programmes that are transforming lives, supporting employers and strengthening local workforces. The shortlist reflects the success of our collaborative Property Maintenance Operative apprenticeship, designed to develop multi‑skilled tradespeople who can help maintain safe, high‑quality homes across the East Midlands. By combining practical experience with technical knowledge, the programme equips learners with the confidence and capability to build long‑term careers in the housing and construction sector. A partnership success The apprenticeship blends onsite learning within NCHA’s Property Services teams with high‑quality workshop and classroom training delivered by Access Training. Apprentices develop hands‑on skills in plumbing, joinery, plastering and painting and decorating, while also gaining essential understanding of building safety, preventative maintenance and fault‑finding. Working alongside experienced tradespeople ensures learners benefit from day‑to‑day mentorship and real operational insight. To meet NCHA’s workforce needs, Access Training designed an accelerated 12‑month apprenticeship model, enabling apprentices to progress more quickly without compromising standards. The model includes tailored curriculum design, increased college attendance and a bespoke recruitment and assessment process to ensure the right candidates are selected and fully supported. Celebrating apprentice success Since 2022, NCHA has recruited 10 apprentices through this joint programme, with strong progression into specialist trades. Recent success stories include Leo, who is now working toward becoming a fully qualified joiner; Joe, who has progressed into Level 2 Joinery; and Alfie, who has joined NCHA’s Gas team. Customer feedback has also been overwhelmingly positive, with residents praising apprentices for their professionalism, quality of work and positive attitude. Delivering long‑term impact Beyond individual achievements, the programme is strengthening NCHA’s long‑term talent pipeline, improving service delivery for more than 10,000 homes and creating meaningful employment opportunities for local people. The partnership between Access Training and NCHA continues to demonstrate the value of collaborative, values‑driven training. We’re incredibly proud of this recognition and the success of our learners, tutors and partners. The awards ceremony will take place on 19th March in Birmingham, and we look forward to celebrating the evening together. |
