Access Training Celebration Event - May 2011

WELL over 500 people celebrated success in work-based learning at the Albert Hall, Nottingham on May 19th many of whom have overcome personal obstacles in their journey to achievement.

The annual Access Training Celebration Event represents the culmination of much hard work and personal sacrifice for many of the 550 learners who have achieved qualifications with the company in the last year.

The pinnacle of the evening was the presentation of the Access Training Star Awards to those learners and employers who had “gone the extra mile” the audience was treated to a video clip of the winners speaking about their individual achievements.

The Employer Award, went to trent barton for its outstanding commitment to the training and development of its staff. The bus company has a long term relationship with Access Training and has recently introduced an apprenticeship scheme, the trent barton Diploma, with the aim of building on its success.

The Foundation Learning Award, sponsored by the Nottingham Journal, went to 17 yr old Anthony Peters of Bulwell currently on a retail course with Access Training.

Anthony left school lacking in confidence and really scared of trying new things.

Attending a work placement was completely out of his comfort zone but he was nominated for the incredible progress he has made in overcoming this.

The Apprenticeship Award, sponsored by Printing.com, was awarded to NHS Apprentice, Lucy Davis, for “demonstrating how effective learning can be” when all opportunities are seized with both hands.  Lucy had started an A Level course but felt academic learning was not for her.

She was put forward for the NHS apprenticeship by Access Training and has been so successful that she has now secured a permanent position as a Children’s Worker in a Sure Start centre.

Talking of the “transformation” this has made to her life, Lucy says that she wakes up “each morning with a smile on my face, wanting to get up and go to work.”

A big thank you to all that attended the evening at Albert Hall, the celebration event was a huge success!

Access Training Celebration Event - May 2010

Over 200 learners and their guests enjoyed an evening of celebration at the Notts County ground on the evening of 20th May 2010 and found out which of them had been awarded the Access Training Learner of the Year Award.

The Annual Celebration Event marks the achievements of learners in work based learning and all learners and their guests know only too well how hard they have worked and the difficulties they have surmounted in juggling work, study and  very often the commitments of family too.

They were inspired by Antony May, Corporate Director for Children and Young People for Nottinghamshire County Council, who described how he had  left school with a smattering of qualifications and started his working life as a filing clerk.  He rose to his current position as a result of receiving support and gaining qualifications whilst at work and he urged the audience to similarly commit to lifelong learning.

The Learner of the Year Award, sponsored by Alpha Graphics and Lyreco was presented this year for the first time to Scott Porter who joined Access Training on an E2E course and overcame enormous difficulties to achieve an NVQ at Level 3 in Child Care and permanent employment at Busy Bees Day Nursery.

Runners up were Susan Lamb and Emma Hall.

Access Training Celebration Event - May 2009

107 COLLECT AWARDS

More than a hundred successful learners packed into the 1862 Suite of the Notts County Ground to collect their awards at an event organised by Access Training to celebrate achievement.

Workers from such diverse areas as Health & Social Care, Child Care, Animal Care, Education, Passenger Transport, young people on E2E courses and school pupils were all praised by both Terry Laws from the Learning and Skills Council and John Endersby from Connexions for their commitment to self improvement.

John, Operations Director for Connexions, commented on how much pleasure he felt from seeing young learners who had under-achieved at school and who had low self esteem, but were  now confident and proud of their achievements.  17 school pupils from 12 different schools were invited to the event.

A total of 372 learners have gained qualifications  with Access Training this year, including 20 of Access Training staff themselves.

Dawn Gibson, Operations Director of Access Training, said,  “All our learners should be very proud of themselves, and the extra mile they have gone to fit in learning around working and often the needs of a family too.”
