Health & Social Care NVQ Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship

Is it for me?
You are likely to have already achieved a Health and Social Care Apprenticeship and be working with adults as a Senior Care Worker or a Health Care Support Worker with additional responsibilities. These might include devising daily plans for services users, leading a team of staff or supporting people with highly complex needs. This qualification enables you to have your expertise formally recognised. You need to be capable of achieving literacy and numeracy at Level 2.

What does the course involve?

  • City & Guilds NVQ Level 3 in Health & Social Care (see previous page)
  • Technical Certificate in Health & Social Care
  • Key Skills level 2 in numeracy and communication*

* If you have achieved a level A-C at GCSE in English and Maths within the last 5 years you may be exempt from Key Skills.

The extra units you have to cover for the Technical Certificate include:

  • Reflect on and develop own practice in a health & social care setting
  • Promote effective communication for and about individuals in a health & social care setting
  • Promote health and safety practice in a health & social care setting
  • Promote choice, well-being and the protection of all individuals in a health & social care setting

How long does it last?
Between 12 - 18 months

Where will I learn?

  • Within your own workplace
  • You may need to spend some time at home producing written accounts for your portfolio

After an Induction, you will have your own trainer assessor and Key Skills tutor (if necessary) who will visit you in your work setting. Your trainer assessor will guide you through the requirements and National Standards that have to be met in order to achieve your NVQ level 3.

How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed through work based practical tasks, observations, written accounts and assignments. You will build up a portfolio of evidence proving your underpinning knowledge and experience within the sector.

What does this lead to?
This qualification will give you the confidence to fulfil your job role and can be part of your continuing professional development (CPD). You can progress to an NVQ Level 4 in Health & Social Care if you are in a managerial position, or to a Foundation Degree.
