Childcare NVQ Level 2 Apprenticeship

Is it for me?
If you want to work with babies, toddlers and young children, learn about how they develop and the importance of play, this course will give you the vocationally recognised qualification you need to work in the child care field. You need to be capable of achieving literacy and numeracy at Level 1.

What does the course involve?

  • City & Guilds Children’s Care Learning and Development NVQ Level 2
  • Units of the Technical Certificate in Children’s Care Learning & Development which include:
    • Principles and values underpinning the care, learning and development sector
    • Supporting the provision of safe and effective childcare
    • Supporting children and young person development
    • Supporting children’s play and learning
  • Employment Rights & Responsibilities
  • Paediatric First Aid
  • Key Skills level 1 in numeracy and communication*

*If you have achieved a level A-C at GCSE in English and Maths within the last 5 years you may be exempt

How long does it last?
Between 12 – 15 months

Where will I learn?
Induction (approximately 4 weeks) includes sessions at Access Training. You will have your own trainer assessor and Key Skills tutor (if necessary) who will visit you in your work placement. You may need to attend further seminars to support your learning.

How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed through work based practical tasks and through a portfolio you will build up proving your underpinning knowledge and experience.

What does this lead to?
You can become a qualified Child Minder or Nursery Nurse and progress to an Advanced Apprenticeship or an NVQ Level 4. You may progress into Higher Education via a Foundation Degree in Early Years.
