Is it for me?
If you are between the ages of 16 and 18, want to learn in a small class in a friendly supportive environment
and Health and Social Care is your chosen career path, then this is the course for you. This course provides
an opportunity for you to develop skills in caring for children and adults which can be used as a basis for
further training in health and social care.
What will I do?
You will study towards a City and Guilds Award/Certificate in Introduction to Health
and Social Care and Children’s and Young Peoples Settings. This course provides
an opportunity for you to develop skills and knowledge required for working in
the health and social care sector.
Practical activities and experiences would include:
- First Aid Training includes resuscitation and
bandaging
- The role and responsibilities of a Health and Social
Care Worker
- Health and Safety procedures in the care setting
- Introduction to Healthy Foods and Special Diets
- Recognise the importance of leisure and social
activities within care.
Where will I learn?
You will attend classes at our premises in Nottingham where
you will be allocated a tutor to guide and support you. If
your course includes a work placement wherever possible this
will be local to where you live.
How often do I need to attend?
You will need to attend 6 sessions a week over 3 or 4 days,
for up to 6 weeks.

Morning sessions 9.15am – 12.00pm
Afternoon session 1.00pm – 3.45pm
How long does the course last?
Your training course will be designed to meet your
individual needs and will be delivered in 6 week blocks. You
will start on a minimum of 16
hours per week which may increase if you have a work
placement.
How will I know what progress I am making?
Your course will be agreed with you at interview and then
planned in detail during your first week on the course. Your
progress will then be reviewed with you regularly to ensure
you know how you are progressing throughout the course.
What are my next steps?
After you have successfully completed your course you could either;
- Progress onto another appropriate 6 week course
- Secure an Apprenticeship
- Go to college to further your learning
- Secure employment
What facilities are available at the Training Centre?
- Learner chill out room with gaming console
- A kitchen where you can make a drink or use the
facilities to make a sandwich or heat up food you bring
with you
- Many of our training rooms are fully equipped with smart
screens and up to date ICT facilities to promote active
learning
- You will be able to access full support with your
qualification and ongoing Information Advice and
Guidance (IAG). This includes Progression tutorials.
- All our delivery staff (Tutors) hold, or are working
towards, a Level 4 or Level 5 teaching qualification and
have worked in the vocational area they train in.
- A dedicated Safeguarding Manager who will support you
with ANY issues
- Dyslexia screening which enables us to meet your
learning needs.
Additional Curriculum Activities
- Fund raising for charities (Children in Need and Red
Nose Day)
- Each month we carry out an activity to promote and
explore issues around equality and diversity.
