Access 2 Hospitality

Hospitality covers the jobs you have thought of and many more that you haven’t.

Hospitality provides jobs for around 2.3 million people. It is one of Great Britain’s largest employment areas.

Is it for me?
Yes if you have a positive attitude and lots of energy. If you want a job that rewards working hard with great development opportunities then keep reading. If you want to work somewhere that is exciting, fun, gives you a buzz, has great benefits, challenges you and you want to be part of a team. If you like change and want a variety of transferable skills. If you don’t fancy the idea of doing the same thing day in day out then is definitely for you as no one day is ever the same.

You can learn how to calculate profit and write menus but no one can give you a personality. If you are a people person, bubbly and love being around others then working front of house could be right up your street. Many hospitality organisations offer the same things but it is the staff passion and care that adds that special something.

If you are passionate about food and want to create exciting dishes then back of house is for you. If you want a career that allows you to use use your creativity and imagination then you can display this in the presentation of your food. Good chefs are able to stay calm under pressure and good at coping with several tasks at once. Salaries for chefs range from around £12,000 to £60,000 a year, or more. To be a chef it is important to be able to work well on your own and work effectively as part of a team.

What does the course involve?
You will also gain a qualification in personal development. You will research and look at the hundreds of career opportunities in a wide range of different outlets. You will have a full induction to the hospitality industry and look at just some of the great job opportunities in restaurants, hotels, bars, school meals, fast food outlets, coffee bars and many more.

You will gain practical experience in:

  • Designing menus
  • How to deal with customer complaints
  • How to work as part of a team
  • Preparing food

Where will I learn?
You will attend a weekly session at our premises in Nottingham. You may also attend a work placement anywhere which involves working within the different areas of hospitality, such as a hotel, restaurant, bar and even a bowling alley.

What does this lead to?
There are always going to be people who want to go out and socialise Hospitality is a skill which will enable you to work in any environment, particularly those dealing with the general public. Following this you may decide to gain more qualifications by work based learning or gain employment.
